Self-Portrait

While a mirror can capture all of one’s features, I believe it can also show the flaws one might not want to present. Therefore, I wanted my self-portrait project to minimize what I do not like about my appearance and capture any beauty. One challenge of creating this portrait with vector art was managing the balance between depicting myself realistically (which I solved with close observation of a reference) and building the effect of the medium (which tends to simplify features with shapes). I learned that much of design, even when there is one subject, is a puzzle that can push messages if they align. Below, I also include many variations exploring various color palettes and focal points.
